**AECOM Buildings + Places** is seeking a motivated, technically skilled Senior Structural Engineer based in Oakland, CA. The ideal candidate will have a passion for leading technically proficient teams, designing custom solutions, mentoring mid-level and junior staff, and developing calculations, drawings, reports, and specifications for the structural design work on exciting and complex projects.
Job Summary/Responsibilities
The Senior Structural Engineer should be capable of leading teams to complete both small and large projects. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with internal and external clients is required. Candidate must be well organized, be able to demonstrate critical thinking, be able to work independently or part of a collaborative team and quickly recognize issues and be part of the solution.
As Senior Structural Engineer, you will be expected to:
+ Be self-motivated with strong work ethic and take pride in your work
+ Complete Structural designs for multiple types of projects varying in size and delivery method
+ Make major design recommendations and design decisions with little input
+ Plan design work, calculates costs, and time schedules to assign design duties to junior staff working on projects
+ Proactively coordinate design and schedule with other disciplines such as architectural, mechanical, electrical, technology, clerical, and equipment suppliers
+ Maintain accurate, clear and concise project documentation and design data for permanent project files
+ Act as an adviser and review work prepared by junior project team members
+ Attend project meetings, or when appropriate, delegates activities
+ Meet with clients, prepares proposals and presentations while maintaining good client relations
+ Assist in project checking for quality control on other projects
+ Have knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of technical plans and drawings
+ Switch between work on multiple/different projects daily
+ Represent the organization and maintains liaison with individuals and related organizations
Minimum Requirements :
+ Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Civil Engineer plus six (6) years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
+ Professional Engineer license in the State of California
+ Driver’s License
Preferred Qualifications :
+ Master’s Degree (M.S.) in Structural Engineering (or Civil Engineering with a focus in structures)
+ Eight (8) years of related experience in the field of structural and seismic engineering
+ Experienced in seismic evaluations and retrofits in accordance with ASCE41.
+ Experienced in seismic design in accordance with the California Building Code and all referenced codes.
+ Experienced in all material types (steel, concrete, timber, masonry, cold form, etc.)
+ Able to use advanced techniques in the modification or extension of theories and practices of sciences and disciplines to complete assignments
+ Experience scoping and drafting fees for engineering components of interdisciplinary project work
+ Experienced in Structural Design and Calculation Software
+ Experience and passion for mentoring younger structural engineering staff
+ Skilled in the use of Microsoft programs and BIM software (primarily Revit and AutoCAD)
+ Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
+ Ability to perform final quality control check in the field of structural engineering
